one of my favourite crafts is also one of the most time-consuming, dangerous, and messiest, but i really like how most of my etching projects have turned out. so far, i’ve etched two cereal bowls, a couple of pilsner glasses as opening night gifts for a couple of blaguards, and a couple of presents for my family.
to achieve the designs i want, i print the designs on sticker paper, then cut out with an x-acto knife (which, depending on the details and size of the type or design can be the most tedious), stick the design (or negative of design) on the glass object and apply the etching cream. the cream is the dangerous bit because it can burn the skin or damage surfaces/clothing. once the cream sets (10-20 minutes), the gunk gets rinsed off and the masterpiece is revealed.
