when we moved, we went from a roomy 3-bedroom house to a small 2-bedroom apartment. this has presented a challenge in stuff management. one of the many sacrifices we’ve made for our new life is nightstands. storage in the bedroom is kept under control by our bed, which was custom built with lots of drawers. but we still have little things that need to be handy at bedtime, like reading material and glasses. i constructed a bed organizer pouch for myself inspired by one i saw on Design Within Reach.

it’s grey felt and utilitarian, but it’s functional and holds lots of stuff. right now it’s holding my glasses, two remotes, a bunch of Sharpies (for late night zombie-robot drawing?), three magazines (Art in America, ReadyMade, and BUST), a book (I, Fatty by Jerry Stahl), and a journal. the pouch tucks in between the mattress and drawers with a flap of felt-covered cardboard. i made it two years ago and it’s holding up well considering the loads.
